In Butler Field, the geese population vastly outweighs the human one. By adding a water prop to the site, it is possible to observe their circulation and determine whether their curiosity and need outweighs their wariness.
Not all projects include the creation of an entirely new building. With limited space and resources, the practice of utilizing old structures for new facilities has become more prominent than ever. Chicago’s old post office takes up more than 2.5 million square feet in the city, indicating a need for intervention on the abandoned building.
Scientists have found life on one of Jupiter’s ice-covered moons, Europa. Now, the discovery will need a place to be displayed for the public, in reach of Chicago’s residents and visitors.
Water connects all life to each other, constantly ebbing and flowing through bodies and structures. It is no more apparent than in the presence of a bathroom. This bathroom’s design is entirely based on the relationship between the human body and its environment: water.
Parks offer a space for people to directly or indirectly participate in their community. This structure allows individuals and groups alike to sit, communicate, and appreciate the environment around them.
The Case Study House Program was designed to provide the American public with affordable, modern homes in the post-war era. Studying the way these houses were developed allows for an insight into the building industry at the time.
Many visit Chicago’s Lincoln Park for its green spaces and sense of community. This design includes two pavilions that will mirror each other but be placed in separate locations within Lincoln Park. One focuses inward, on the human body and experience, while the second focuses outward to the environment.
Chicago’s Grant Park contains circles of grass on each corner of the land, the perfect place for an installation. Nature is an integral part of the park, with sprawling trees and carefully planted flowers, making a related installation fitting for the environment.
